The solution I like the best is when I tell myself to play. Just put some paint down on the paper and experiment, let the paint run free, turn the paper around different ways, let a wash of color roam across the paper. Then sometimes I see an image, other times I decide to start coloring papers with different colors for use in collages later. I may try a new technique that I have wanted to try, but felt I did not have the time for. Playing is the very best way for me to be surprised with the results. Just like the day I decided to start rolling little pieces of paper up into little bundles. I glued some with a gel I use and tied some with waxed linen thread. From that play day I have created my pictures called remnants or bundles, see Mostly Blue, Green Bundles, Red, White on White, and Waste Not, Want Not. My bundles are available as commissioned pieces and the most personally memorable wedding present you can imagine. They are wonderful for the new bride and groom, but also make excellent anniversary presents. Contact me directly, but a piece like this begins with a collection of little items such as a piece of the gown fabric or veil, beads (from the gown), small mementos (2-3 inches or scraps). Look for items such as wedding menu, flower from bouquet, sheet music, ticket stubs, photographs, etc., anything that can be rolled, as well as things that can be attached to the bundle. I will be adding my own material, but the things you supply will make it personal.
